Hi, I’m Richard, and welcome to my blog. By trade I’m an electronic engineer, although as is often the case, life has the habit of taking us on unplanned journeys…
I graduated from university with a degree in Electronic Engineering and spent the first years of my career working for a LASER firm, designing and developing a range of medical and industrial LASER systems. During this time I also qualified as a Chartered Engineer.
Over the years my career has primarily been as a systems engineer, running research and development projects for numerous blue chip companies from high powered LASER systems to state-of-the-art, award winning Hi-Fi systems.
Ooops
However, in July 2000 things took a turn for the worse when I dived into my next door neighbour’s swimming pool, breaking my neck and leaving me paralysed from the neck down.
That kind of stopped me in my tracks for a while, but I slowly managed to get my head straight and began to look forward. The first thing I achieved was developing a website for a band I used to play in, which was quite cathartic I guess and part of the healing process.
During this period, I also managed to complete my PhD thesis, based on my previous work with LASERs, graduating in 2003.
On the the way I’ve been guided and assisted by a plethora of information on the web, posted by many selfless individuals. So this blog is an attempt to redress the balance and give something back to web community.
